Counselling Gillingham-Dorset
My name is Gilly Russell, I am a fully qualified counsellor and a registered member of the BACP and BPC (British Psychoanalytic Council). In my practice Counselling Gillingham-Dorset you are welcome for individual counselling and therapy.
My aim is to work with you, I offer a supportive, confidential space, a place to be heard, where you may talk through whatever is on your mind. By working together and talking through whatever circumstance or situation that may be troubling you, you gain an increased awareness of your own reactions to things and uncover more about yourself.
The more honest we can be with ourselves the better chance we have of living a satisfactory and productive life. This isn’t an easy task and there are often many blocks, sometimes we are afraid, or resistant to making changes or maybe we simply don’t quite know why we react to certain things or situations.
Whether you have stress at work, relationship difficulties or coping with loss or bereavement. I am here to help.
Types of issues
I can help with a wide range of issues, in particular:
AnxietyIf you are feeling worried, tense or afraid or maybe an unease or dread of certain events, talking it through may help to relieve the intensity of these unpleasant feelings and find a way of working through them to make day to day life more fulfilling and less stressful. |
AttachmentMaybe you are having difficulty trusting or connecting with others. Psychotherapy can help enormously, offering a space to learn ways to create bonds that are safe, meaningful and loving. |
DepressionIf you are feeling depressed, you might be experiencing a constant low mood and lack of interest in enjoyable activities. Talking it through in a safe and non-judgemental environment can help alleviate these symptoms. |
Loss and bereavementExperiencing the loss of a loved one can be one of the most painful and distressing feelings you can experience. Even if it feels too much to bear, talking through all of those feelings can really make a difference. |
Other issuesApart from the above mentioned, I can also offer help with other issues, such as: ✓ Eating disorders ✓ Panic attacks ✓ Phobias |
Making positive changes
A psychodynamic approach is different to other types of therapy such as CBT, where there may be exercises given or goals to meet in helping make behavioural changes. This may come about as a result of working with you, but my aim is to look deeper at the issue, whether that is anxiety, stress or depression for example, and explore with you underlying reasons for feeling the way you do.
This may be something that has been unresolved from an earlier time in your life or a coping mechanism that is ineffective or simply does not seem to work anymore. We tend to repeat things when we remain trapped in them, even those actions thoughts and behaviours that we are not immediately aware of.
By talking about them in a safe, confidential space, I hope to help you explore and facilitate your understanding and self-awareness. The more you understand yourself, the more positive changes you can make.
Could you use some extra support in your life, or do you have any questions?
Feel free to send me a message.
